Recently, the Lund University alumni Bertil P. Lundqvist, made a donation to the MAD for Cancer program, his American employer Starr Companies matched the amount. This procedure is called "Employee Matching Gift" and is a common form of philanthropic giving in the United States. This is the first time, Starr Companies give a donation to cancer research outside the US.

Bertil P. Lundqvist, a Swedish lawyer working in the US, donated private funds to MAD for Cancer.  In his youth, Lundqvist studied law at Lund University.

Prof. Carl Borrebaeck, head of MAD for Cancer says:

-This is extremely gratifying and a recognition of the quality of our cancer research aimed at creating new solutions to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. As an interdisciplinary research program at Lund University, MAD for Cancer involves cancer researchers from four faculties with the goal to transform cancer care - not for future generations but for todays.

-The idea to support various types of nonprofit activities in this manner is deeply rooted in American society and has created a culture of donating, which of course is good for society at largeas a whole, says Ulrika Nilsson, Head of Donor Relations, Lund University.
